Foundation Program

The starting point - establishing your essential baseline health metrics. These are interpreted for you by our multidisciplinary health team.

  • You get an insightful assessment of how well your body and mind are functioning.
  • We then help you identify controllable, modifiable lifestyle parameters to improve your health and reduce risk of disease.
  • We provide you with recommendations and follow-up support aimed at empowering you to achieve your health potential.

The Foundation also serves as the platform for any additional precision testing to detect and diagnose cause(s) of specific problems and to manage and resolve these.

A good way to explain is to anticipate your questions:

  • How well is my body functioning, given my lifestyle, personal and family health history?
  • What do I need to do to stay well?
  • Am I at risk for any of the ‘big three killers’ - cardiovascular disease, cancer or diabetes? Or, for any other threats to my health?
  • Am I experiencing any nutrient deficiencies? Hormone imbalances?
  • Given my level of physical activity, how ‘fit’ am I really?
  • My life is stressful - physically and emotionally. Has stress taken a toll on my body? How well am I really coping?

We don’t wait until you ask us about symptoms – we’d rather prevent them from occurring. We selectively apply scientifically advanced screening and diagnostic tests from a variety of speciality medical disciplines. Most of these tests are not typically available in traditional ‘check ups’. They require training and experience to fully understand, interpret and explain. Your multidisciplinary Health Team are experts in doing so.

Biochemistry

Here are some examples of how we approach the ‘big three’ disease risks.

Cardiovascular disease

– common methods of calculating cholesterol levels can be quite misleading. We use a technique that precisely measures:
  • Characteristics and nature of sub-particles of cholesterol to identify whether it is predominantly of the damaging or protective type
  • Inflammation markers that indicate high susceptibility to arterial plaque
  • Nutrients essential to cardiac health – fatty acid and B vitamin levels

Cancer

– of course, a healthy lifestyle plays a key role in prevention, but so do screening tests:
  • Blood markers for prostate, breast, ovary
  • Urine marker for bladder
  • Nutrient levels – Vitamin D and antioxidants

Diabetes

– relying on measuring levels of blood sugar simply tells you after the fact - too late. Early-warning signs can and should be measured:
  • Abnormal hormone levels
  • Biomarker indicating control of blood sugar

Physical Assessment – two components;

  • 1 hour comprehensive fitness assessment
  • Physical examination

Diet Assessment – with the help of Scienta Health’s proprietary computer analysis, we analyze your 5-day diet log to identify eating habits and deficiencies in nutrient intake that powerfully influence your biochemistry and metabolism.

Stress Management Assessment – stress today is a ‘given’; most important is how you cope with it. We ask you to complete a computerized assessment to identify areas in which your coping strategies can be .

Initial Consultation - Your Program begins with an in-depth consultation (phone or in-person) with a senior physician, who discusses your health history, concerns, goals and the recommended specialized testing you may require in addition to the Foundation.

Testing - covering about 2 hours - takes place at Scienta Health Center (or may be arranged off-site). We will set you up with a secure online “Health File” and ask you to begin entering a detailed 5-to-7 day diet log using Scienta Health online Nutrition Profiler™. The fitness assessment will be arranged off site at a fully equipped professional facility. Other additional specialty tests will be arranged as required.

Results Review, Strategy Sessions - About 4 weeks later you return for an in-depth review of your Health Scorecard™ with two members of your Health Team (physician and naturopathic doctor). In 1 - 2 hours together, we explain your test results and implications and we jointly develop your Health Action Plan™. This plan takes into account your medical concerns, our new insights, your lifestyle and approach toward your health. (If you’re wondering why it takes a month after testing, we send test samples to leading labs worldwide for specialized processing using the latest in diagnostic science).

Coaching and Follow up - In the weeks following, your Health Team is available to guide you. We meet with you again 4-5 weeks later to review changes, improvements and any follow-on testing results. After that, you choose the level of care, coaching and support that meets your preference beyond the initial 3 month period provided in a Foundation program.

We often hear: “I just can’t lose those 10 to 15 pounds I’ve added in the last five years” or “when I started on the diet and exercise program I shed the first 10 pounds quickly, but now I’m stuck on a plateau and still need to lose another 10 to 15”.

Weight is affected by genetics, nutrition, lifestyle and hormone balance in your body. It is a function of your unique metabolic processes at different stages in your life. It is no wonder that “one-size-fits-all” approaches don’t work on a sustainable basis. They only help in the initial stages when one is significantly over-weight – obese – and even then, with limitations.

Successful weight management requires that you understand the factors uniquely driving your own metabolism and adapt your nutrition, exercise and other aspects of lifestyle accordingly. This begins in the Foundation Program.
